About Sara Kern Gaćeša

  • Biography

The urge to create has been present in me for as long as I can remember — an instinct that grew stronger as I became more aware of the world around me. I draw motivation from many external stimuli — people, places, emotions — but above all, it is the natural world that continues to inspire me most deeply.

I have always admired all forms of art, from the earliest historical expressions to contemporary practices. It’s difficult to pinpoint one specific influence, as I find inspiration in many movements and artists. Some of the visual artists whose work resonates with me most include Georgia O’Keeffe, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Chris Ofili, Gauguin, Lois Dodd, Félix Vallotton, Franz Marc, and Boris Bućan.

In my painting process, I combine high-quality materials with intuition, observation, and imagination — often working from photographs, collages, and sketches. Each piece is an exploration of colour, form, and atmosphere, grounded in personal experience.

    Short Bio:

Graduated in 2010 from the School of Applied Arts and Design (Graphic Design Department)

Enrolled the same year at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb (Painting Department)

In 2013, received an Erasmus scholarship to study at Complutense University of Madrid, as well as a City of Zagreb scholarship

Earned a BA in Painting in 2014, and an MA in Painting in 2016

I have held four solo exhibitions and participated in several group shows, both locally and internationally.
