  • Biography

    Samvel Tavadian (born September 19, 1978, Artsakh) is an Armenian painter whose artistic journey is deeply intertwined with the cultural and historical landscape of Artsakh.

    From 2001, Tavadian lived and worked in Shushi, where he not only developed his artistic language but also played an important role in nurturing the next generation of artists. Between 2001 and 2023, he taught at the A. Khachaturyan State Humanitarian College in Shushi, combining creative practice with pedagogy.

    Tavadian has participated in numerous group exhibitions across Artsakh, Armenia, Lebanon, Germany, France, Canada, the United States, Moscow, and Tbilisi. His first solo exhibition was held in 2013 at the Shushi Art Center. In recent years, his work has gained increased visibility in Yerevan, with solo exhibitions at the Naregatsi Art Union in 2024 and the Dizak Art Center in 2025.

    His artworks are held in private collections worldwide and were previously represented in the Shushi Museum of Fine Arts and the Shushi Art Center. A committed participant in international art dialogue, he has been a regular contributor to the Machanents and Dizak Colors international art symposiums.

    The events of the 2020 forty-four-day war marked a profound turning point in the artist’s life and work. During this time, more than 200 of his artworks were left behind in his Shushi studio, a loss that has deeply shaped his artistic reflection on memory, identity, and resilience.

    Samvel Tavadian is a member of the Artists’ Union of Artsakh and the Artists’ Union of the Republic of Armenia. His work continues to stand as a testament to cultural continuity, artistic dedication, and the enduring spirit of Armenian art.
