About Peto Poghosyan

  • Biography

Peto Poghosyan was born in 1983 in Gyumri, Armenia, and currently lives and works in Yerevan. From an early age, he pursued formal artistic training, beginning with courses in sculpture and graphics at the Gyumri branch of the Fine Arts Academy (1998–2000). He continued his education at the Painting Department of the Fine Arts Academy in Yerevan, graduating in 2006.

Poghosyan works primarily in watercolor, using a pure technique without mixed media. He masterfully combines dry brushwork with wet watercolor surfaces, achieving a distinctive balance between control and spontaneity. Working both en plein air and in the studio, he explores figurative compositions centered on urban life and human presence. His works reflect the emotional duality of city dwellers—moments of joy and melancholy intertwined—as individuals search for meaning within their surroundings.

Studio works are often developed from the artist’s own photographs and carefully refined through an expressive and thoughtful process. A significant focus of his practice is cityscape, where he studies urban rhythm, atmosphere, and focal points as living, emotional spaces.

Peto Poghosyan has held 11 solo exhibitions in Armenia and abroad, including exhibitions at the Falk Art Museum (Yerevan, 2008), the United Nations Office in Yerevan (2013), the Yerevan City History Museum (2014), and a personal exhibition in Taipei (2016). His works are held in private collections across Armenia, the USA, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Great Britain, Austria, Russia, Iran, the UAE, Argentina, and Canada, as well as in institutional collections such as the Yerevan City History Museum, Qingdao Art Museum (China), and the American University of Armenia.
