I like to move. As an art teacher, I frequently dance around my classroom. Wether at work or in my studio, music inspires spontaneity and movement that I aim to capture through brush strokes and scrapes. Each squiggle around or through a form is an attempt to infuse life into and on the surface. I am an extrovert who creates this expressive dialogue with the paint & its ground — as they are a surrogate for life.
Figures, landscapes, and cityscapes typically emerge from people and places throughout Nova Scotia, Canada and travel beyond. Each stroke and scrape documents a sincere gesture and expression of place to represent perceived qualities of the subject's personality. If a moment lacks sincerity it is scraped & reworked in pursuit of unanticipated moments of insight. Here, I seek beautiful creative moments where figure and ground might share a dance and become intertwined.
