About Oxana Lazari

  • Biography
My name is Oxana Lazari, and I am a self-taught dot artist from Moldova. My artistic journey began long before I realized it. As a child, I often accompanied my father, a professional fisherman, to the lake. Surrounded by water and fish, I felt a deep connection to the underwater world. The very first thing I ever drew was a fish, and soon my school notebooks were filled with sketches of fish, plants, and flowing shapes that echoed the rhythms of water. These early images became my first artistic language. Despite this deep connection with drawing, I initially chose another path. In 2012, I graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Moldova State University and spent nearly a decade as a journalist. Words became my primary instrument of storytelling, but the visions of fish, ripples, and hidden beauty beneath the water never left me. In 2018, I discovered the dot art technique, and it immediately felt like destiny. The meticulous placement of thousands of tiny dots reminded me of the patterns of water, of shimmering fish scales, and of the infinite details hidden beneath the surface. Through dot art, I found a way to merge the precision of journalism with the imagination of visual storytelling. Each painting became a narrative built from rhythm, patience, and meditation. In 2021, I made the life-changing decision to leave journalism and dedicate myself fully to art. Since then, I have been working as a professional full-time artist. Dot art is a time-intensive practice — I create approximately 12 original paintings per month. Over these years, I have participated in group exhibitions, held a solo exhibition, and sold over 200 original works. My paintings are now part of private collections around the world. The United States accounts for 70% of my sales, followed by Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, Japan, Ukraine, Poland, and the United Kingdom. Each work is a product of thousands of individual dots, forming intricate compositions that reveal hidden patterns of nature and unseen connections between elements of life. While the underwater world remains at the heart of my inspiration, I have expanded into diverse themes: vibrant jungles, cosmic visions, and minimalistic black-and-white abstractions. Every piece invites viewers to slow down, observe, and find their own story within the dots. Just as in journalism, where every word matters, in my art every dot carries meaning, contributing to a larger visual narrative. My creative journey began with fish drawn in a school notebook and has grown into an international career. Yet, every time I paint, I return to that childhood lake — where silence, water, and rhythm first taught me how to see the world. Through dot art, I continue to transform those memories into visual poetry, sharing the beauty, flow, and hidden stories of life with collectors and viewers worldwide.
