About Jacob Guzman
Biography
The style of my work is heavily rooted in the philosophy that limitation breeds creativity, which allows us to express our individuality. I keep my work playful to invoke the feeling that the audience themselves can do it, yet keep complexities to highlight my experience with the respective medium.
Majority of my work begins unplanned, requiring me to use prior experience to adapt and push the work in the direction of my liking. Although this is common in my studio practice I do have a portfolio of ideas for larger projects.
Subjects in my work range from self-identity, lessons learned growing up in a marginalized community, the honesty and travesty of the world, empowerment and the autodidactic trials of the black and brown experience.
