About Maarit Korhonen

  • Biography

I am a Finland-based abstract painter living in Espoo. My creative background is rooted in music, which has strongly influenced my sense of rhythm, repetition and structure in visual art.

Alongside music, I studied visual arts early on, including a year-long course in croquis and landscape painting. Over time, my focus gradually shifted more fully toward painting, which I have pursued continuously for many years.

My work evolved from realism into a more playful and humorous direction, and eventually into abstraction. Today my paintings explore the interplay of shape, line and rhythm through layered color and repeated figures. Many works feature a single figure drawn two or more times, creating movement and a sense of inner dialogue.

I work in both small and large formats, but I am especially drawn to larger-scale paintings.
