About Linda Kuhlmann

  • Biography
I knew I wanted to be an artist before I knew what an artist was. As a child, I was spellbound by the illustrations in my storybooks and I knew I wanted to “make beautiful pictures” someday. Now, many years later, art is my way of saying thank you—for beauty, for harmony, for the quiet unity that connects all living things. It’s the only way I know to express my gratitude. And I feel a deep need to do so. My goal is to create art that resonates—work that might evoke a sense of beauty, harmony, or connection in the viewer.

I create both representational and abstract artworks in oil, acrylic, and colored pencil. Sometimes a particular subject appeals to me because some particular aspect of it evokes a memory, and I take a realistic approach to creating; other times I prefer a more intuitive or expressive approach. In either case, I'm always profoundly thankful for the beauty of the natural world that inspires me.
My preferred method of working is layering, whether I'm working in oil, acrylic, or colored pencil. I rarely use a single color. I prefer to create colors through layering, as I think it adds depth to the work and mimics nature. You can see dozens of shades of green in a single leaf.
