About Katherine Laflamme

"The Alchemists" contemporary art series is a return to traditional painting for me, after 20 years of mostly working on highly technological Animation Films. For centuries, artists have created tools along with their art. I am no stranger to the use of tech in arts, having used a blend of cutting edge 2D and 3D digital tools on award winning productions such as: Pixar BrickToons, Smallfoot, The Addams Family and Oscar nominated Over the Moon movie. In recent years though, I feel a longing for a simpler time; when hands, brushes, pigments and human endeavor were enough to transmute complex experiences into art. Using the very mediums favored by some of the greatest artists in history, “The Alchemists” series is an invitation to tune back into feelings that cannot exist in the computer world. Each piece explores a different angle of the question: Can there be art without the human experience?
