About Kamil Woj

  • Biography

I am a Polish-born artist based in the UK, working primarily in oils. My approach is all about the "alla prima" technique—capturing the raw energy and immediate light of a subject in one go. Much of my work is done en plein air (painting outdoors on location), where I try to catch the rhythm of the British landscape or the character of wildlife before the moment shifts.

My style is heavily influenced by my past as a professional guitarist, including performing with rock legend Pete Way. That background taught me to work without hesitation. I treat a blank canvas exactly like a live gig: I approach it with the same flair, rhythmic vitality, and "no second takes" intensity I used on stage. Whether I’m painting a face or a field, I attack both with the same direct, wet-on-wet energy.

My process was recently featured on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year as a Wildcard artist. I’ve also exhibited at 54 The Gallery in Mayfair and held a solo show at the New Forest Heritage Centre. For me, painting is about providing an honest, unfiltered connection to the subject.

Event: Raw Impressions: The New Forest

    Dates: 22 May 2026 - 29 May 2026

    Venue: Hatch Gallery, Christchurch

Running through the bustling May Bank Holiday week in Christchurch, this tightly curated showcase at The Hatch Gallery offers visitors a rare, authentic view of the local landscape.
The exhibition features an exclusive selection of 15 fully finished and varnished original oil paintings. Every piece was executed entirely alla prima (in a single, intense session) directly in the heart of the New Forest.
Driven by a fast, unapologetic approach, there is no cautious studio overthinking here—just impasto, bold brushwork, and a direct reaction to the elements. This intimate exhibition gives collectors and visitors the opportunity to take home a genuine, enduring piece of the Forest.

    Event: New Forest Scenes

    Dates: 5 Dec 2025 - 31 Dec 2025

Venue: New Forest Heritage Centre, Lyndhurst, UK.

Running throughout December 2025, this was my debut solo exhibition in a public space, featuring a comprehensive showcase of 42 original artworks. Hosted at the New Forest Heritage Centre, the collection focused heavily on my plein air paintings created directly within the New Forest itself.

The exhibition highlighted my personal and artistic journey—bridging my long career as a musician with my intense, passion for painting. Every piece on display was a direct reflection of my life experiences and emotions, bringing the raw energy of the outdoors into a gallery setting.

Event: Art in the Age of Ai

    Dates: 15 Oct 2024 - 20 Oct 2024

Venue: 54 The Gallery, Shepherd Market, London, W1

This London's exhibition explored the intersection between traditional art and Artificial Intelligence. I showcased one selected artwork, using this event as an opportunity to deliberately step out of my usual plein air comfort zone.

Leaving my standard oils behind, I experimented with acrylics—a medium quite unusual for my daily practice. The piece was based on an experimental reference photo, allowing me to translate a modern, digital concept into my signature raw, physical brushstrokes. It was a challenging and refreshing experience that pushed my boundaries .
