About Jose F Jimenez

  • Biography
From a very young age, I've had a deep drive for creating art. However, in my youth, I was more interested in crafting instead of drawing and painting. At the age of 20, I began to work as a jewelry maker. I worked at a jewelry store, creating pieces of gold and silver for 5 years. In 2012, I had the opportunity to come to Canada and while I was here I discovered painting. After making my first painting, I decided I wanted to create art for the rest of my life. In 2018, I earned my Bachelor's degree from the Drawing and Painting program at OCAD University. After a few years working professionally as an artist in Canada, I moved to Florence, Italy where I lived for 3 years. In Florence, I developed my artistic practice surrounded by the historic legacy of Italian Renaissance art. Now I've returned to Toronto, Canada, and I'm working as a full time artist. Since the moment I created my very first painting, my drive for creating art has only increased. I had many childhood experiences surrounded by nature, so the deep relationship I still have with it drives me to create art. I have a profound necessity of expressing myself through art. It has become the language I use to communicate the deepest feelings. Recently one of my artist-friends who has worked with the gallery for several years recommended I apply to work here. He spoke to me about the great opportunity it is to be part of this particular gallery. I do consider I can bring something unique and novel to the table, which can also enrich the incredible selection of artworks the gallery already has. I can present a new opportunity for people to view landscapes in a different way.
