About Jonas Peres

  • Biography

“Jonas Peres creates a compelling dialogue between the spiritual depth of Rothko and the cultural immediacy of Warhol.” —NewArts/CP

Jonas Peres is a Spanish visual artist based in Madrid, trained at the California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles, with advanced studies in Modern Art at the Museum of Modern Art, MoMA, New York. His work is guided by a simple yet profound question: how can the divine be felt in our time?

Through luminous fields of color, subtle horizons and immersive atmospheres, Peres explores the emotional power of light and perception. His paintings are not meant to be explained, but experienced — inviting the viewer into a quiet yet transformative state of contemplation.

Rooted in art history and informed by his studies in History and Divinity at Yale University, he has sought to reimagine how the sacred might find expression within contemporary visual culture. His work moves between vibrant chromatic energy and more introspective, contemplative fields of light — always centered on the idea of color as presence.

Each piece is developed through a layered compositional process before its material realization, using inks, pigments and varnishes to achieve depth, luminosity and resonance.

Jonas Peres has exhibited internationally, including presentations during the period of the Venice Biennale and at Art Basel Miami. His works are held in private collections in cities such as New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Dubai, San Francisco, Tokyo and Berlin.
