About Janet Hamilton

  • Biography
Janet Hamilton (b. 1970) is a contemporary abstract painter in Nashville, TN.  Her work is deeply inspired by color and the relationships that develop from its interactions. She creates heavily-textured, multi-layered, mixed-media paintings using oil paints, acrylics, beeswax, spray paint, and found paper. Throughout her portfolio, she demonstrates a mastery over color choice; each palette creates a specific emotion and mood. She builds the texture of her painting with many layers to reflect the emotional depth of her passion-filled process. Using knives instead of brushes to create depth, she stacks the paint in a rhythmic, sometimes chaotic pattern.  Interested in making a simple landscape a little bolder or a geometric design come to life, she finds expression in the structured chaos and creates these energetic, intuitive abstracts using her spontaneity and youthful spirit.
