About Grama Gabriel

  • Biography

    Hello, I'm Gabriel Grama

My work is a thorough exploration of myths, human archetypes, and spirituality. I blend figures from ancient Greece, Byzantine tradition, Romanian pagan rituals, and Balkan folk art into dreamlike compositions that speak of ascent, struggle, and the search for light. Horses, mythical beings, and humans populate my canvases, each telling a story of transformation and inner strength or of fall and destruction.

These pieces that you are about to discover, are filled with complex shapes and bodily interconnection that invite the viewer to analyze each and every little detail in order to uncover the little stories and subsequently, the bigger picture of life.

For most of my artwork I use acrylic colours on canvas after I outline the forms of my subjects with charcoal. I also experiment with coloured pens on hard paper and canvas, a technique I adapted during the pandemic because it was convenient at the time.

    Event: ''People- Rise or Fall''

    Dates: 9 Apr 2019 - 11 May 2019

Venue: ena contemporary, valaoritou 9g Athens

Gabriel Grama’s exhibition "People - Rise or Fall" presents to the public a series of large and medium-sized works that were created in 2017-2018. The technique in most works is acrylic on canvas. The artist performs an "assemblage" game using thousands of human and animal figures, creating a special collage, a mosaic whose pieces are faces, ancient statues, kores and kouroi, horses, ascension scenes, struggle and anguish scenes, mythical beings and animals.
The artist uses at the basis the sculptural form, to which he adds minimal color, preferably blue and dark blue.
A basic source of inspiration is ancient Greece with its stories, myths as well as the Romanian pagan customs of the New Year, the rhythms and the traditional art of the Balkans and the Middle East.
