About George Irvine

I am motivated to make complex, lucid, living work that aims to capture time spent chasing specific moments in nature. Like a surfer chasing the perfect wave, I watch and sometimes wait for the sublime moments. And then sort of pounce. For example, take a day absorbing the spirit of a place: the fleeting changes of light, weather and atmosphere. In that cycle, opportunities arise for recording ‘wow’ moments. Like a fisher, there are long periods of thinking whilst the eyes scan the surroundings. Followed by fast practical and physical action trying to record and capture. So a painting is a summary of various elements caught, after a day spent ‘angling’ for these happenings. The creation of the work is fed by the imagination, that in turn feeds from the experience of that day spent in a place.
