Portrait Unveiling – Professor Van der Schaft at the University of Groningen

Portrait Unveiling – Professor Van der Schaft at the University of Groningen

This photo was taken during the official unveiling of my portrait of Professor Arjan van der Schaft in the Academy Building of the University of Groningen. I am pictured here with Professor Jacquelien Scherpen, the Rector Magnificus of the university at the time. The portrait was commissioned to honor Professor van der Schaft’s exceptional academic career and his contributions to the Faculty of Mathematics. It now hangs permanently in the historic Academy Building as part of the university’s portrait collection.

Portrait of Professor Van der Schaft – University of Groningen

This photo was taken during the unveiling of my portrait of Professor Arjan van der Schaft, from the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Groningen. The painting was commissioned by the university to honor his distinguished academic career upon retirement. Creating this portrait was a meaningful experience — capturing not only his likeness but also the calm intelligence and integrity that define his years of contribution to science and education. The work now hangs permanently in the university’s Academy Building in Groningen.

In the Studio – Floral Series

In the Studio – Floral Series

In my Groningen studio, I’m working on a new series of floral still lifes. These paintings focus on the delicate balance between light, texture, and atmosphere — where each petal becomes a study in color harmony and emotion. Painting flowers allows me to explore both the fragility and resilience of nature. Every brushstroke is an attempt to preserve a fleeting moment of beauty and turn it into something timeless.

    Exhibition: Tussen Hemel en Horizon

    Exhibition: Tussen Hemel en Horizon

From 11 May to 15 June 2025, I participated in the group exhibition Tussen Hemel en Horizon (“Between Sky and Horizon”) at Café Restaurant De Eisseshof in Niehove. Together with artists Peter Doorn and Anita Zijlstra, we explored the beauty of the northern Dutch landscape — its skies, fields, and the quiet rhythm between light and horizon. The exhibition combined oil paintings and drawings that captured the essence of nature through color, line, and atmosphere.

    In the Studio

In this photo, I’m working in my studio in Groningen — surrounded by brushes, colors, and works in progress. My palette is always full of soft transitions and natural tones that reflect the moods of the landscapes and figures I paint. The studio is where my paintings begin quietly — from mixing the first color to building layers of light and texture. Each piece grows from observation into emotion, shaped by both patience and intuition.

Portrait Unveiling – University of Groningen

This photo was taken during the official unveiling of my portrait of Professor Cisca Wijmenga, the first female Rector Magnificus of the University of Groningen (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen). The event took place in the historic Academy Building, where her portrait now hangs alongside generations of university leaders. It was a deeply meaningful moment — standing beside Professor Wijmenga and seeing the painting join the university’s permanent collection as part of its living history.

Exhibition: Tussen Hemel en Horizon, Niehove

This photo was taken during the group exhibition Tussen Hemel en Horizon (“Between Sky and Horizon”) in the village of Niehove, one of the most atmospheric art events I’ve been part of. The exhibition brought together artists whose work explored the Dutch landscape and the emotional space between earth and sky. It was a wonderful moment of connection and celebration — sharing my paintings alongside other artists, meeting visitors, and exchanging stories about our creative journeys.

Me and my artworks in my Atelier

Me and my artworks in my Atelier

In My Atelier In my Groningen atelier, I spend most days surrounded by my paintings, landscapes filled with light, still lifes glowing with color, and portraits that tell quiet stories. This is where each piece begins, layer by layer, in natural light and silence. Painting for me is not just about the subject but about capturing a fleeting feeling, the warmth of autumn, the softness of petals, or the inner calm of a person. My studio is both my workplace and my refuge, where observation turns into emotion and emotion into color.
