About Emma Pilkington
Biography
My training began with a BA Honours Degree in Drawing and Painting at Glasgow Art School, winning the Elizabeth Greenshields Award. In the following years, I was commended in the BP Portrait Award, studied under Maggie Hambling at Morley College, and had solo shows at Matthews Flowers Drawing Gallery, St Saviours Church Knightsbridge and Christ Church Fulham. In addition, my work featured in group shows at Sotheby's, The Russell Gallery, the Richmond Arts Society, the Landmark Arts Centre Fairs, and The Chelsea Art Society.
I enjoy painting in oils from a blend of life and imagination. I tend to paint smaller for plein aire, but usually prefer a larger canvas in the studio. Specifically, painting in the landscape in oils on board is a challenge I enjoy. I am moved by the work of Van Gogh and the intersection of mental illness, suffering and faith, and am inspired by the colour that David Hockney finds in the natural world. Finding colour in nature is a passion of mine. I want to convey human emotions from a representational starting point. In addition, I have recently found great solace in painting with groups of other artists.
