About Deborah Jayne Young

  • Biography
I am an artist located in beautiful Southern Scotland where I live with my husband and two golden retrievers.   In 2015 I had a serious health scare and we decided to move 400 miles away from the rat race of the South of the UK.  At that time I retired from my career in teaching and decided to concentrate on my art and creativity .  I find the whole process absorbing but at the same time,  relaxing.

My preferred medium for my work is oils which I use to build up layer upon layer with the last layer reserved for fine detail.   For me, oils have the intensity of colour that is rivalled by no other.   A few years ago I discovered chalk pastels and love the softness which they create.   I love realism, impressionism and just lately I have started to dabble with abstract.   I paint mainly still life, landscapes and animals.   Most days, I can be found working with oils in my little studio.

My training comes from a lifetime of passion and my creativity.   I have no rules and no one to please but myself and my customers.  Inspiration for my work comes from the beauty that surrounds me mainly the Scottish landscape, life's little quirks and the images that I have dancing around in my head.   I pride myself in shipping artworks that have been created on canvas inside a bespoke wooden crate for protection.  This enables the piece to reach its destination in pristine condition, even if it has travelled half way around the world .

I will accept some commissions if the photograph is of good enough quality to enable me to do so.
