About Cath Waters

  • Biography
I am Scottish landscape digital artist and photographer living and working on the Isle of Skye. I'm very much inspired by my travels around Scotland as well as the landscape around my home on Skye. I love the "wide open spaces, vast grey skies and low light of the Scottish West Coast and the Hebrides" and try to capture the solitude and calm of these special places.

My work are digital collages which can mean any form of collage assembled or created using a computer. My process starts off on location where I photograph the landscape. Back in the studio I use a computer and large graphics tablet to blend the landscape with sections of additional photographs to add texture, colour and depth. These additional photo layers can be photographs of painting or mixed media or photographs and scans of surfaces such as rocks, peeling paint, scratched metal, rust, fabric, old paper....all sorts of unusual things. Each finished piece might have between 10 and 20 layers of collage in addition to the original landscape photograph.

Because the collage components are assembled digitally, no physical originals exist. All my work available on Artfinder are high quality signed and numbered Giclee pigment ink prints produced on fine art archival papers. I also produce artwork on ceramic tiles, mugs, coasters, tableware and stationery which are available on my website .

My limited edition prints are printed in my studio on the Isle of Skye on heavyweight cotton rag fine art paper or fine art canvas. When combined with my 12 colour pigment ink printing system, I produce prints with perfect colour reproduction and exceptional longevity (estimated 80+years). Paper prints are hand signed, titled and numbered in pencil.
