About Anna Lyashenko

  • Biography
My name is Anna Lyashenko, born and currently working in Cherkasy, Ukraine. In my art practice I combine precision and detail with a search for metaphorical meaning. The works are created at the intersection of natural forms and personal transformations, reflecting both emotions and inner states. I explore the connections between life and fading, light and shadow, hope and frustration, fragility and strength, creating artworks that combine technical skill and depth of feeling. I ask myself: Is it possible to find support in the fragile? Is harmony possible where opposites meet? I invite the viewer to search for answers with me.
As part of my artistic practice, I actively present my work to the public through exhibitions and projects. My recent exhibition history highlights some of the most significant and large-scale presentations of my work, including:
    ● 2025 Between Worlds, Taras Shevchenko Museum, Kyiv, Ukraine (ongoing)
    ● 2025 Botanical Art Worldwide 2025: Crop Diversity in Ukraine, National Museum of Natural History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv, Ukraine
    ● 2024 Invisible Gardens, Taras Shevchenko Museum, Kyiv, Ukraine

    Event: Between Worlds

    Dates: 18 Sep 2025 - 12 Oct 2025

Venue: Taras Shevchenko National Museum, Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, 12 Kyiv Ukraine 01004

“Between Worlds” is an exhibition about the multidimensionality of contemporary life, in which the experience of living through war, a globalized world, migration, and digital reality stratify our lives into several parallel “now’s.” Within this liminality—between “before” and “after,” between the human and the natural—a new optics emerges: attentiveness to one’s own body, to nature, to memory, and to shared space.
The project connects the Ukrainian experience of a “worlds-in-between” rupture with a broader intellectual context: from theories of liminality to Frantz Fanon’s view of the “wounded subject” and the need to re-define oneself through one’s own history. In parallel, it develops a dialogue about the coexistence of humans and nature—not as opposites, but as parts of a single, fragile whole—in the spirit of contemporary ecological thought.

Event: Botanical Art Worldwide 2025: Crop Diversity in Ukraine

    Dates: 18 May 2025 - 18 Nov 2025

Venue: The National Museum of Natural History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Str., 15, Kyiv, Ukraine

Ukraine has a rich agricultural potential due to its fertile black soil and diverse climatic conditions. This allows for the cultivation of a wide range of crops, which play a significant role in the country's economy and its food security. For many years, plants and people have lived in harmony, creating a unique cultural landscape that has inspired many artists and botanists. The diversity of crops in Ukraine is not only an economic asset but also a source of creative inspiration for many generations of artists and scientists. Reflecting this wealth in art helps to better understand and appreciate the natural gifts of our land.

    Event: Temporarily here

    Dates: 29 Dec 2024 - 21 Jan 2025

    Venue: META-SENSES GALLERY, virtual

The exhibition "Temporarily Here" explores the delayed life syndrome, particularly in the context of war and the ecological crisis. In times of uncertainty, when natural resources are depleting and war forces us to postpone important decisions, people often put life on hold, waiting for a "better" future. The artists in the exhibition use painting, graphic design, photography, and collage to show how war and ecological disasters alter our perception of time and lead to the postponement of necessary actions.

    Event: Invisible gardens

    Dates: 10 Oct 2024 - 27 Oct 2024

Venue: Taras Shevchenko National Museum, Kyiv, Ukraine

This project delves into profound themes of resilience and renewal, focusing on two key aspects: the vulnerability of Ukraine’s endangered plants, affected by the war, and the inner strength symbolized by "invisible gardens" that reside within each of us. These gardens are spaces of balance and safety, where anxious thoughts gradually transform into calm reflection. A garden is a point of "grounding," where one can return to oneself, to nature, and to what provides us support. In today’s world, especially in Ukraine, it is particularly important to find this personal space of peace and comfort.
