Biography
Ani Hovak was born in 1989 in Yerevan, Armenia. She is a graduate of the Komitas State Conservatory, where she received her formal education in music. Art entered her life unexpectedly at a mature age—like the thrill of a sudden first kiss—an encounter so intense that it awakened a deep emotional need to relive that moment again and again. For Ani, living without emotion was unthinkable; art became a necessity rather than a choice.
Creation soon became as essential as breathing. Through her work, Ani experiences both emotional highs and lows, translating life itself into color, texture, and material. Every piece carries a deeply inspirational soul, shaped by her sensitivity to emotion and her intuitive relationship with materials.
At the heart of Ani’s practice is the exchange of souls—an honest, emotional dialogue between the artwork and the viewer. She seeks to touch her audience through sincerity, expressing delicate feelings and inner states by bringing life to unexpected forms. Rough objects, discarded elements, and even rusted metal are transformed into expressive carriers of emotion. The value of the material itself is irrelevant; what matters is the unity and spirit she embeds in each work, capturing a story reborn.
Ani’s artistic language is rooted in deep emotion and empathy. One of her core principles is environmental consciousness—giving discarded materials a second life and renewing what was once considered waste. This act of transformation is both aesthetic and philosophical, reflecting her desire to heal, regenerate, and reimagine.
After years of experimentation with paint and mixed media, Ani developed recurring thematic worlds centered on the Fish and the Girl.
The Fish symbolizes deep cleansing, renewal, and self-healing.
The Girl represents subtle emotional states and feminine sensitivity, brought to life through expressive color and texture. These works feel almost conversational, as if the viewer could engage with them directly. This evolving body of work became known as “The Girl Mood”, now recognized as Ani’s signature theme.
From figurative beginnings to abstract expression, Ani’s work continues to expand in freedom and emotional intensity. By blending reused materials, layered textures, and instinctive color relationships, she removes conventional representation and allows emotion, composition, and spirit to guide each creation. Her works are technically refined yet emotionally raw, inviting strong personal responses.
Alongside her visual art practice, Ani Hovak is also an accomplished classical singer. She performs with the Hover Chamber Choir in Yerevan and has appeared at selected venues across Europe, further enriching her artistic identity through sound and performance.
Today, Ani Hovak is regarded as one of Armenia’s most promising emerging abstract artists—an artist who celebrates individuality, embraces diversity, and continues to transform emotion and material into powerful contemporary expression.
