White Elephants (2026) Original Watercolour by Yulia Evsyukova

"White Elephants of Bangkok"

You see a photograph and a scan of the painting.

This watercolor was inspired by a trip to Thailand and an encounter with the country's culture. Here, I captured the famous marble stele located in the center of Bangkok: sacred white marble elephants set against a blue background. I wanted to intensify the blue hue, as in Thailand it symbolizes wisdom and tranquility—qualities we all sometimes lack.

First, I made a version using gouache; it’s smaller and also available in the gouache section.

High-quality paints and heavy 300 gsm watercolor paper were used.
