$788.83

Evening skies just before nightfall, seen at the bottom of the artist's garden in Burgundy.

The artwork depicts a nocturnal landscape dominated by a cluster of dark, silhouetted trees against a deep blue sky. Texture is given through the gesso and paper in the background, with an almost scratchy application of charcoal for the trees, suggesting a sense of roughness and age. The sky is a gradient of blues, deepening towards the top, while the fading light sets towards the horizon beyond the trees. The varying darkness of the silhouetted trees contrasts with the vastness of the night sky, and give depth. Detail is scant to create an ambiguous and dreamlike scene.

The overall feeling is one of introspective peacefulness and the awe-inspiring beauty of nature's quiet grandeur.

Acrylic paint and charcoal on 400g textured paper.

Sent rolled in a tube, with glassine protective sheet.
