Thin air (2025) Original Oil Painting by Marco Modiano

This painting is a diptych titled Thin Air, consisting of two companion oil-on-canvas panels. The artwork features a highly expressive, surrealist, and textured figurative style, focusing on fragmented human figures set against an atmospheric, abstracted landscape.
The right panel focuses heavily on the bare, exposed legs and feet standing on a cold, rough road. The way the pink dress is bunched up suggests a feeling of self-protection or being caught off guard, evoking raw intimacy.
In stark contrast, the left panel introduces a sense of whimsical rebellion. Flipping upside down into a handstand feels like a sudden, joyful burst of energy—an attempt to break free from reality, upend perspective, and escape into the "thin air.”
