The Distant Red Light (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Svitlana Zezekalo

80 x 60 x 0.1cm (unframed)

$676.14

The Distant Red Light is a contemporary night harbour painting from my Architecture of Memory series.
A quiet bay emerges gradually from the darkness: scattered boats, a distant shoreline, waterfront buildings and a tiny red lighthouse marking the horizon. Much of the composition remains almost completely black, allowing only fragments of the landscape to become visible through light and reflection.
Rather than describing a particular harbour in detail, I wanted to capture the experience of looking across dark water at night, when distance reduces a familiar landscape to isolated shapes, lights and traces of architecture.
Painted in acrylic on black canvas, the work combines recognizable maritime forms with loose, gestural marks. The exposed black ground becomes an active part of the painting, creating depth and silence around the boats and distant coast.
The small red lighthouse is deliberately understated - a single point of colour within the vast dark space, drawing the eye across the bay.
