Technicolor Canyon (2018) Original Oil Painting by Tetiana Surshko

80 x 60 x 1cm (unframed) / 80 x 60cm (actual image size)

$1,577.66

A river of deep ultramarine runs out of a canyon straight toward you, and at the far end a snow-capped mountain stands under a sky of hot pink and magenta. Technicolor Canyon is a bold expressionist landscape where every shape is drawn with a thick black line and filled with pure colour: flame orange slopes, teal and violet cliffs, a lemon yellow riverbank and lime green bushes in the front corners. Long rays of light fall through dark crimson clouds like the beams of a stage.

The painting belongs to my Fantasy Dreamscapes series, landscapes that show a place the way it feels in a dream and not the way it looks at noon. Here I let colour say everything. The heavy outline works like the lead in a stained glass window and makes each colour shine brighter. The composition is almost symmetrical, with the river as the central road and the peak as its destination, and that order keeps so much colour calm.

The canvas is 80 x 60 cm (about 31.5 x 23.6 inches) in landscape format. It works as a statement piece above a sofa or a desk and suits a living room, a creative studio, a playful office, a games room or a teenager's room. On a white wall it looks graphic and clean, and on a dark wall the pink sky seems to glow.

It is painted in oil on stretched cotton canvas. The colour fields are laid in flowing strokes that follow the shape of the rock and the current of the water, and a black contour locks every form in place. The painting is signed, varnished for protection, and the sides are painted, so it is ready to hang with no frame needed.

It ships stretched on its wooden bars in a sturdy protective box, never rolled, by tracked and insured courier from Lisbon, Portugal, usually within 3 to 5 working days. Keep it out of direct sunlight and dust gently with a soft dry cloth. If you would like more photos, a close-up of the brushwork or a view in a room setting, send me a message and I will be glad to help.

About
Colour is the engine of everything I paint. I'm drawn to the moment when an ordinary thing turns intense — a bouquet that burns like fire, a wave a second... Read more
