This painting is an imagined landscape inspired by the quiet beauty of nature, where a forest opens onto a peaceful lake and light filters through the trees.

I wanted to capture the feeling of being surrounded by nature rather than create a precise representation of a particular place. The composition is built through layers of colour, light and shadow, with deep greens and dark tree trunks contrasting with soft pinks, warm ochres and pale, almost luminous areas of sky and water.

The surface of the canvas is an important part of the painting. I work with visible, expressive brushstrokes and multiple layers of oil paint, allowing some of the colours and textures underneath to remain visible. The textured surface catches the light differently across the painting, creating a sense of movement and depth.

For me, the contrast between light and shadow is what gives this landscape its atmosphere — a moment of stillness, warmth and quiet discovery, as if the viewer has just stepped through the trees and found the lake beyond.
