A spiral special colony of 39 marching ants

In nature, ants sometimes fall into a phenomenon known as a “death spiral” or “ant mill.” When their pheromone trail is disrupted, they can begin following one another in a continuous circle, each ant trusting the one ahead. Unable to break away, the colony may continue moving until exhaustion — and sometimes death.

Spiral transforms this unsettling natural phenomenon into a hypnotic composition. Thirty-nine ants move together in an endless circular rhythm, where repetition creates both beauty and tension.

The work explores instinct, conformity, trust, and the fragile line between following and losing one’s own direction
