Soft gaze (2026) Original Watercolour by Natalia Slushaieva

For me, this work is about silence—a silence in which emotions are heard with particular clarity. I wanted to convey not just an image, but a state of inner focus, when a person seems to pause for a moment and is left alone with their thoughts.

I worked on this painting to maintain a delicate balance between realism and atmosphere. It is important to me that the portrait conveys not only the subject’s appearance but also their presence—soft, alive, and slightly elusive. Light, color, and the movement of the brushstrokes help convey this sense of calm and depth.
