She is interested not only in the colour and form of the flowers, but also in the variety of their surfaces and tactile qualities: the delicate smoothness of the petals, the density of the leaves, the rigidity of the stems, and the sharpness of the thorns.
Within a single flower, contrasting qualities come together — the delicate and the prickly, the smooth and the rough, the fragile and the rigid, the soft and the dangerous.
Through layers of paint, scratches, and marks on the surface, the artist explores the physical, tactile presence of the flower, seeking not so much to depict a rose as to evoke the sensation of touching it.
