About the Artwork
Nude on a Green Background draws on the visual memory of the Flammarion engraving, in which a human figure reaches beyond the apparent boundary of the known world. Here, that gesture is displaced from the cosmos into a more intimate and bodily space.
The figure occupies a threshold between physical presence and an undefined realm beyond it. Flesh becomes both surface and boundary — tangible, vulnerable and sensual, yet also capable of suggesting a passage beyond what can be immediately seen.
Rather than revealing what lies on the other side, the painting focuses on the impulse to cross the limits of the visible: the desire to look beyond appearances and to approach something that remains uncertain, hidden and ultimately unknowable.
