meet (2024) Original Oil Painting by joon hwan kim

53.5 x 28 x 4.5cm (framed)

$1,000

This work is part of my “Meet” series, in which I transform ordinary moments in nature into imaginative encounters through playful characters. Here, a tin teapot robot dressed as Napoleon rides a honeybee toward a clover flower, humorously imagining the character collecting nectar from the flower.

The familiar figure of Napoleon is reinterpreted as a small, whimsical robot, creating a contrast between historical imagery and the simple world of flowers and insects. Through this playful scene, I wanted to express the curiosity, innocence, and humor hidden in everyday encounters with nature.

As in my other “Meet” works, the teapot robot represents people and memories from my life, while the natural world becomes a stage where imagination and reality come together. Rather than depicting nature simply as a landscape, I use it as a place for meeting, memory, and storytelling.
