meet (2025) Original Oil Painting by joon hwan kim

50 x 57 x 4cm (framed)

$1,000

This work captures a warm summer moment shared by a family at a small stream near their home, where they went to escape the heat. A mother teaches her child how to fish, while the child happily enjoys the excitement of catching fish in the cool water.

The lush trees, sparkling stream, and sunlight express the vivid energy of a hot summer day. To enhance the natural texture of the scene, I created the base using Baekto, a traditional Korean white clay, and layered oil paint over it. This process allowed me to bring out the rough, tactile quality of nature while conveying the refreshing atmosphere of the stream.

Beyond a simple summer landscape, this painting is also a visual diary of a child's growth and a family's precious memories. What may seem like an ordinary afternoon becomes a treasured moment that remains in the hearts of both parent and child.

Through Meet, I wanted to express the importance of family, the joy found in ordinary moments, and the precious memories created while growing together in nature.
