Clouds heavy with a rain that hasn't fallen yet. A mountain dissolving slowly into mist. This piece holds a single moment above a waterfall in Killarney, Ireland — a hike where the trail up felt steep, and the way down felt steeper still. I lost the path on the descent, turned the wrong way, and found myself alone in the mist longer than planned. A little disorienting. Strangely beautiful.

Painted wet-on-wet, letting the watercolor bloom and blur the way the landscape itself blurred that day. Oil pastel is used sparingly — just enough to hold the foreground foliage steady against the soft, sinking wash behind it. The palette moves between cool blue-greens and warm pink-grey skies, chasing that particular Irish light where rain and sun seem to argue overhead.

This work belongs to the Irish Sky Series, an ongoing study of the shifting weather and light over Ireland's southwest coast. Small in scale but atmospheric in feeling, it brings a quiet, misty calm to any wall — a reading nook, a hallway, or any space that could use a window onto Ireland's ever-changing sky.
