Iceland: Landscapes of Another World

This series explores the otherworldly landscapes of Iceland through the unpredictable nature of watercolour. Working wet-on-wet and embracing the granulation of pigments, I allowed water and colour to interact freely, creating textures that evoke volcanic surfaces, shifting ice, and the meeting of land and sea. Each work becomes a collaboration with the medium, where chance plays an essential role in shaping the image.

I approached these landscapes with a minimalist sensibility, reducing them to essential forms, contrasts, and movements. Rather than documenting specific places, I wanted to capture the feeling of encountering a world that seems almost extraterrestrial — raw, vast, and suspended between the familiar and the unknown.

In these paintings, Iceland becomes more than a geographical location. It is a glimpse into the Earth's primordial forces, where the landscape feels like a fragment of another planet, and where the boundary between matter, atmosphere, and imagination begins to dissolve.

The work is executed on handmade paper.
