Human Zoo — Under Observation (2022) Original Acrylic Painting by Gela MIKAVA

Three human figures emerge at different heights from a field of blue, burgundy and vivid color. The upper figure seems to watch over the others, while paint drips downward and partially dissolves their bodies. In Under Observation, visibility becomes uncertain: are these people looking at us, or are they the ones on display? Part of the Human Zoo series, this expressive figurative painting explores the uneasy relationship between identity, exposure and the gaze of others.
