Her World (2024) Original Oil Painting by Ryan Louder

A woman sits perfectly still in a burning world while a pale-faced watcher crouches at the edge of the canvas — for me this is one of the most direct recordings of what REM intrusion actually feels like.

I have narcolepsy, diagnosed at Guy's Hospital in London, and dream imagery bleeds into my waking vision. The seated figure is built from warm gold and amber that merges into an environment of black, orange and red — not a room, more a colour surge. She is lit from within by her own skin. At lower left a smaller dark figure with a pale face watches her, separate enough to register but never fully resolved. In REM intrusion that is the felt presence — the sense of someone there that you cannot name.

It is an oil painting on canvas, 87 x 116 cm, with the upper field worked in heavy red impasto. I have painted over 2,000 works and sold more than 1,000 originals. This will be carefully packaged and dispatched by tracked courier.
