Her Dan Tranh (2026) Original Oil Painting by Stephen Benedek

40.64 x 40.64 x 4.45cm (unframed)

1 Artist Review

$325

A young woman playing a musical instrument , the Dan Tranh. This is a very popular musical instrument all over East Asia. However , there seems to be minor differences from culture to culture , in the number of strings .( The strings are so thin , that I could not paint them in a small painting like this.) I just painted the posts that the strings rest on. In Viet Nam , where I took my reference photo , I believe it has 14 strings.
Here in Toronto , where there is a large Asian population , I showed the painting to friends of Asian descent, and several either played , or knew someone who did.
The painting is on a gallery frame , and is painted around the sides.

Materials used:

Winsor and Newton oil paint
