Held in the Same Current (2026) Original Ink Drawing by Nicol Vacaru

Held in the Same Current is an original warm sepia ink drawing on paper exploring the closeness and subtle tension that exist between two people.

I created the two profiles through broad, continuous brush movements rather than detailed outlines. The figures appear to move through the same flow of ink — sometimes overlapping, sometimes separating, but always remaining connected by the surrounding lines.

I was interested in that space where two people can feel deeply connected while still remaining separate individuals. The sweeping marks create movement around the faces, while the untouched paper gives the composition openness and balance.

The warm earthy tone softens the strong graphic structure of the work and gives the piece a quiet, intimate character.
