Fly Away (2020) Original Oil Painting by Yuko Montgomery

This original photorealistic oil painting on canvas captures a white dove in full flight, rendered entirely in black and white to let the architecture of feathers and wings take center stage. Built with patient, academic oil painting technique, every barb and shaft is picked out in exacting grayscale detail — from soft down at the breast to crisp, ink-black wingtips — so the piece reads less like an illustration and more like a single instant of flight, paused to study. Behind the dove, a single deep red sun glows against a soft beige ground — the only note of true color, and a deliberate symbol of life and the universe, echoing the sun motif of traditional Japanese art.

As a spirit animal, the dove has long stood for peace, love, and harmony, and across cultures doves and pigeons are seen as bringers of good fortune and messengers of tranquility — symbolism that makes this a natural living room statement piece, bold enough to anchor a wall, peaceful enough to live with daily.
