Original artwork description
Part of an ongoing series exploring the shapes of horse chestnut leaves in autumn, this piece celebrates the expressive character of nature in transition. As the leaves dry and curl, their distorted forms seem almost animated, full of movement, gesture and wistful memories.
Gestural layers of line drawings weave through soft veils of warm pink-grey tones, creating a sense of depth and impermanence. The marks emerge and recede, like half-remembered fragments from earlier days, capturing the fragile boundary between observation and memory.
Working with pastel and acrylic, I built up translucent layers that allow traces of earlier drawings to linger beneath the surface, echoing the way memories fade yet remain present. The result is a contemplative work that invites close looking and reflection on the passing of time and the quiet beauty of natural forms.
