Chrysanthemums (2022) Photograph by Dianna Jazwinski

I adore botanical detail and I create images with plenty of them, focusing in on tiny stamens, petal texture, colours, gestures and more.

Low light so beautifully captures the beautiful textures of these Heritage Chrysanthemums, especially on a dark background. I love how it captures the delicate sheen of each petal and their glorious, rich, jewel -like colours. Chrysanthemums may be considered old fashioned but these have an exceptional beauty that needs to be re-discovered.

My work is created by arranging flowers repeatedly until I find a pleasing composition and then photographed traditionally using natural light. Digital adjustments are made to optimise the shadows, blacks and highlights.
