Original artwork description
Black and White — 02 is an original abstract painting created in Barcelona, exploring movement, rhythm and the space between silence and expression.
Against a deep black surface, grey calligraphic gestures expand across the canvas, overlapping and crossing one another like fragments of an unknown writing system. Compared with the first work, the composition feels more open and fluid, allowing individual gestures to emerge and disappear within the surrounding space.
I work directly on the canvas without preparatory sketches. Each mark is a response to the previous one, making improvisation an essential part of the process. The lettering is not intended to be read or translated. It is an invented visual language in which rhythm, pressure, speed and movement become more important than words.
The title Black and White refers to the tension between opposites. Yet the work deliberately avoids a pure black-and-white contrast: the grey marks occupy the space between the two, suggesting ambiguity, transition and everything that cannot be reduced to one side or the other.
For me, this painting is an echo rather than an answer — a gesture that continues after the first gesture has disappeared.
This work can be displayed independently or together with Black and White — 01, forming a diptych. Together, the two canvases become two different expressions of the same invented language.
