Blue Still Life (2006) Original Oil Painting by Anastasia Kondratovich

58.42 x 58.42 x 7.62cm (framed)

$3,600

This piece represents peace and quiet to me. I arranged these objects myself and painted the scene directly from life. I brought together a collection of everyday objects, including a teapot with a teacup which remind me of my Russian background, various Easter eggs, an elongated blue vase and some fruit.

The composition is built around different shades of blue. The light blue background and the cerulean blue circle behind the objects create a simple, almost theatrical setting, allowing the shapes and colours of the still life to stand out. I enjoyed exploring the contrast between the cool blues and the warm, natural colours of the fruit and eggs.

In the background, in the left top corner, a small New Mexican rug adds a personal touch. I painted its intricate pattern quite realistically, giving it a different level of detail from the more simplified shapes surrounding it.

For me, this painting was an opportunity to play with colour, arrangement, and the relationships between familiar objects. By bringing them together in an unexpected way, I wanted to create a composition that feels quietly playful and carefully balanced.
