Between Structure and Tide is an original large contemporary abstract diptych from my Oceanic Geometry series, created in 2026. The artwork consists of two 140 × 80 cm acrylic paintings on canvas, forming an impressive composition approximately 160 × 140 cm when displayed side by side, excluding the space between the panels.

The idea behind my Oceanic Geometry series began with a contrast that has always fascinated me: architecture is designed to remain, while water is defined by movement. One is built from boundaries, proportions and structure; the other refuses to keep a fixed shape. In this diptych, I wanted these two visual languages to exist within the same space.

I began by constructing the composition through strong vertical and horizontal divisions. Architectural blocks, fragmented planes and dark linear passages create an underlying framework across both canvases. Against this structure, I introduced softer layers of pale blue, powder blue, blue-grey and white, allowing them to spread and dissolve like water, mist or reflected sky.

As I worked, the distinction between architecture and landscape became increasingly ambiguous. A vertical form can be read as a building, a shadow or a reflection. A horizontal division may suggest an architectural plane, a distant shoreline or the surface of water. I deliberately left these possibilities unresolved.

The palette combines pale blue, powder blue, blue-grey, white, ivory, warm beige, taupe, stone grey, charcoal, black, espresso brown, burnt umber and subtle ochre accents. The restrained combination of cool aquatic blues and warm architectural neutrals creates contrast without overwhelming the composition.

I developed the surfaces with professional acrylic paints using palette knives, brushes, glazing, scraping, dry-brush techniques, layering, dripping and gestural linear marks. Areas of dense texture sit beside smoother translucent passages, while scratches, fine lines and exposed underlying layers give the work an architectural, almost constructed quality.

The two canvases are intentionally different but interconnected. Lines appear to continue from one panel to the other; colors reappear in altered proportions; solid forms on one side are answered by more fluid passages on the other. The space between the canvases becomes part of the composition itself.

For me, Between Structure and Tide is ultimately about the relationship between what we build and what refuses to be contained—between permanence and movement, architecture and nature, structure and water.

With two 140 × 80 cm vertical panels, this is a substantial contemporary artwork designed to create a strong architectural presence in a large interior. Displayed together, the diptych measures approximately 160 × 140 cm, excluding the desired gap between the canvases.

This is a unique, one-of-a-kind original diptych from the Oceanic Geometry series and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Please note: Both canvases are sold unstretched and shipped rolled together in a protective tube for safe international transportation. They will require stretching onto wooden stretcher bars after delivery.
