Alignment (2025) Original Acrylic Painting by Tim Smith

Alignment was painted after seeing a tree in early spring whose branches seemed to form comet-like trails, converging and intertwining as though drawn together by invisible gravity. I had this idea - what if the natural world and the celestial were one — comets aligning to create a tree.
Painted in acrylic on sandpaper, the textured surface gives the work both warmth and a subtle shimmer, echoing light across bark and sky, and you get more of a sense of this in the detail shots and the video. The method of framing is up to you - it is made to go both in a mount and glass frame if you want, or have in mounted on board and framed as a little acrylic - you might prefer this to let the surface do it's work. The painting explores how pattern, chance, and imagination can turn ordinary observation into something otherworldly — a quiet meditation on connection, order, and wonder.
