North Cornwall, winter 2015.

The sun is going down and the cliffs are on fire.

That orange light. It arrives low and fast in a Cornish winter, catching the top of the headland and turning it gold, while the Atlantic below stays cold and silver-blue. The rocks are dark, the sea is still, and for a few minutes everything is lit from the side like a painting nobody planned.

I've lived alongside this stretch of coastline for over twenty years. I surf here, walk here and spend a lot of time watching the sea. You begin to recognise its moods, but the light can still catch you by surprise. These are the moments I keep coming back for.

This photograph is part of my ongoing exploration of the Atlantic coast in winter — its changing light, its textures and the contrast between the warmth of the land and the cold water below.
