Day Off (2025) Original Acrylic Painting by Liza Nabokova

146 x 97 x 1.5cm (unframed)

€4,000

It's their one free day, and the dancers have gathered in a quiet café in Madrid, with the Almudena Cathedral and the Royal Palace glowing at sunset behind the windows. Dressed in black, they sit, lean back, stretch their tired legs and finally let their shoulders drop. Here, among other women, no one is watching or judging, and they can simply be themselves. All except one can't sit still: in a red dress covered in flowers, she keeps dancing, because the music is still in her body and rest, for her, looks like movement. The bull's head on the wall watches it all, as if it has seen this a thousand times.
A painting about the different ways women rest, about the safety and ease they feel in each other's company, and about the passion that never takes a day off. Original acrylic on canvas, signed, unframed and ready to hang

About
My paintings belong to women, entirely and without apology, for the male world, with its noise and its self-importance, has always seemed to me too small a stage, too weightless... Read more
