For my series on New York City, I sought to capture the sheer scale, the frenzy, and the somewhat chaotic nature of this dizzying, sleepless megalopolis. To amplify these sensations, I chose to use the technique of multiple exposure. Then, since the Big Apple is—both literally and figuratively—a vibrant, colorful city, I felt that a black-and-white image was missing that special something. That is why, during post-production, I decided to introduce a single color to give the image a distinctive glow. This photo was taken in Times Square.

This is a yellow-toned, abstract collage image of Times Square, New York City. Multiple layers of images are superimposed, creating a busy, dreamlike, or chaotic atmosphere. Elements include advertisements with people and text, vintage-style posters, street scenes with cars and pedestrians, and statues of men working. The dominant color is a bright, almosttextural yellow, which unifies the disparate elements and gives the image a warm, energetic, and slightly surreal feel. The overall effect is a vibrant, textured, and complex representation of a bustling urban environment.

Printed on 100% cotton paper—free of acid and optical brighteners (Fine Art print on Red River Palo Duro Softgloss Rag 315 gsm paper) using Epson pigment inks. The paper measures 25 in x 17 in, and the image measures 23.4 in x 13.2 in. Consequently, the image is surrounded by a margin.
