About Patrick Furse

  • Biography
I use collage techniques to create layers and planes of texture, pattern and colour in my work. I am interested in geometry, making 3-dimensional pieces that quietly confound the viewers expectations using false planes, lines and unexpected juxtapositions.

As an artist by night, designer by day - my work is a mixture of the abstract, geometric and typographic applied onto made objects. I like to make actual things with my hands as well as using a computer.

In my drawing work I am fascinated by the hybrids of people, animals and symbols that are often found in classical mythology as well as tribal and religious artefacts.

    Event: Before the Ambiguity

    Dates: 1 Apr 2014 - 1 May 2014

Venue: The Plough Arts Centre, Torrington , North Devon

A collection of 'mementoes' from the late 20th Century – a time before the ambiguity, irony and virtuality of today’s digital world. Like archaeological finds from an era ended barely 30 years ago - these objects are familiar and yet unfamiliar, boundaries have blurred, layers and slices revealing unexpected colours and textures. The work is handmade using wood veneers and original printed ephemera, paper and card.
